- Paramour- (noun) A lover or a mistress. Sentence: (pg 215) "They were his sisters and his paramours/colored like him in all particulars"
- Crimson- (noun) A bright fire like shade of red. Sentence: (pg 217) "Of crimsoned arrows, fires flaming red"
- Melancholy- (noun) A gloomy, or depressed state. Sentence (pg 214) "Sooty her hall, her kitchen melancholy/ and there she ate full many a slender meal"
- Perilous- (adj) Dangerous, or disastrous. Sentence: (pg 225) "Thou hadst been warned, and truly by thy dreams/ that this would be a perilous day for thee"
- Implored- (verb) Begging somebody desperately to do something. Sentence: (pg 221) "He woke and told his friend what had occurred/ And begged him that the journey be deferred/ At least a day, implored him not to start"
- Azure- (adj) a clear purplish blue, like an unclouded sky. Sentence: (pg 215) "Like azure were his legs and they were set/ on azure toes with nails of lily white"
- Zeal- (noun) an intense or eager desire for a person, cause, or object. Sentence: (pg 228) "And give more pleasure with the zeal forsooth"
- Steadfast- (adj) fixed in one direction; unwavering. Sentence: (pg 229) "And burnt to ashes with a steadfast heart"
- Niggard (noun)-A stingy or ungenerous person. Sentence: (pg 217) "For husbands tough, dependable and free,/ Secret, discreet, no niggard, not a fool / That boasts and then will find his corage cool / At every trifling thing"
